Whistling Through the Vines

Gongyi is home to the Kang Family Mansion – a Ming Dynasty mansion still preserved centuries later. Also called the KangBaiWan Mansion 河南巩义康百万庄园. It is #10 on China’s list of famous mansions!  A truly beautiful place filled with all sorts of ancient buildings and gardens. At one time, he was apparently the wealthiest businessman in China. The family was famous be being good and virtuous, so much so that the emperor wrote them a poem just for them after 8 generations of wise and honorable leaders in a row.  Wish I could have met them!

Stay Out!

Chinese historical sites (and some city buildings) here in Henan have a tendency to have these sharp warnings NOT to climb the walls.  Given how much looting and destruction they’ve faced with their heritage in the past, it is a pointed (pun intended) reminder that history is to be protected, not stolen or broken.  Also – avoid the Baiju (China’s alcoholic beverage which is as much as 70% alcohol). Getting drunk on that and stupidly climbing the fence is a REALLY BAD idea here!

Shaolin Temple’s Wushu Monks!

Henan is home to the Shaolin Temple – made famous in Jackie Chan’s films and the center of Chinese Kungfu or “Wushu.”  The monks did a performance for the Henan Tourism Festival!

Xin Nian Kuai Le 新年快乐

Happy Spring Festival to any Chinese viewers! Today is the first day of the Year of the Rooster. Wishing you money in your purses, love in your hearts, family in your homes, luck in your future, and wisdom in your minds

#Math – I Shall Rule You!

Math and I are becoming Good friends for the GMAT 😓😭💪 It’s a lengthy process 😜😄

Durian – the #Stinky Fruit

Durian is the #stinky fruit of Asia. They call it the cheese fruit and smelly fruit. China loves it in pastries, cakes, and the like.

I’ve been told it’s worse than stinky tofu and I’d agree. Smells like cat pee and tastes like it smells. On the good side, the smell, heaviness, and pokey thorns make it an excellent weapon!

Merry Christmas from China!

Great Christmas Eve! 🎅 Went to breakfast and shopping with mom. Saw totally cute gift ideas!! 😊 Then my friend Harry came by and we made peanut butter and ritz cookies, had delicious dinner, walked the river looking at the lights, saw the fireworks, etc. ❄ Even saw an electrical fire! 😱 Then the lovely cafe owner’s wife gave me a cupcake for Christmas 😍 Even though China doesn’t really celebrate Christmas, lots of locals stopped to wish me Merry Christmas. Then woke up this morning to awesome gifts, delicious breakfast treats from a friend, and a spa day. Tonight I party with some friends here at the foreign housing.  A real wonderful life!

Dance-Off Party!

These are my amazing students! As part of our Business Negotiations class, I asked them to prepare a group dance. They had to work together and we voted on who had the best dance. There were some GREAT ideas here, and I was really proud of them. Make sure you watch the last dance!
